The United Arab Emirates is embarking on a transformative initiative aimed at integrating high school students into the private sector workforce. The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) alongside the Ministry of Education (MOE), has officially launched the second phase of the ‘Work Experience’ program. This forward-thinking programme provides over 3,400 training opportunities for Emirati secondary school students, allowing them to acquire practical skills through real-world experiences in private sector institutions.
Programme Details and Requirements
The second phase is scheduled from March 24 to April 11. Students participating must be UAE citizens aged between 15 and 18 years with a cumulative GPA of 80 percent or higher. Additionally, parental approval and a school certificate of non-objection are necessary for registration. This initiative highlights the collaborative efforts of various government bodies including the Emirates School Foundation and the Higher Colleges of Technology to empower students.
Success and Expansion
Since its experimental launch in September 2023, the programme has successfully engaged over 1,780 students with more than 500 entities exceeding initial goals. Moving into a comprehensive five-year phase, it aims to support Emirati youth by integrating practical work experiences from Grade 9 through their final year of higher education.
Benefits for Students
Participating students gain invaluable experience in diverse professional environments, enhancing skills crucial for future career success. This initiative not only prepares them for the job market but also fosters a stronger connection with industry needs and expectations.
Collaborative Efforts
The programme is coordinated by MOHRE with support from key partners including the Emirates Council for Competitiveness and Productivity NAFIS, highlighting a unified effort to bolster youth integration into the skilled workforce. Schools are encouraged to promote awareness about this beneficial programme among students.
