In a significant gesture of recognition, the Council of Arab Interior Ministers has bestowed His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik with the esteemed "Prince Naif Arab Security Medal of Excellent Class," symbolizing the highest honor within the realm of Arab security awards. This accolade was awarded in acknowledgment of HM's pivotal contributions to strengthening bonds of brotherhood and cooperation among Arab nations, while promoting peace and stability throughout the region.

The award ceremony took place during the 42nd meeting of the Arab Interior Ministers held in Tunis. Sayyid Hamoud bin Faisal Al Busaidi, Minister of Interior for Oman and head of its delegation, received the medal on behalf of His Majesty. In his statement to the Oman News Agency (ONA), Al Busaidi highlighted how this prestigious award serves as a testament to Sultan Haitham's strategic efforts in addressing security challenges with foresight and proactive measures.

Al Busaidi further emphasized that this honor not only recognizes His Majesty’s initiatives but also reinforces Oman's pioneering role in the Arab security landscape. He assured continued Omani support for all endeavors aimed at bolstering security integration among Arab nations, aligning with their aspirations for peace and dignity.

Tunisia Leads Initiatives to Foster Cooperation

The meeting commenced with welcoming remarks by Khaled Al Nouri, the Tunisian Minister of Interior, representing the President of the Tunisian Republic. He expressed Tunisia's commitment to supporting initiatives that enhance Arab cooperation across various fields, particularly in security.

Dr. Mohammed bin Ali Kuman, Secretary-General of the Arab Interior Ministers Council, reflected on the council’s accomplishments in 2024, noting significant progress in combating drug abuse and other security challenges within their jurisdictions. He highlighted measures implemented by the Secretariat General to prevent the adverse impacts of drug-related activities across Arab societies.

Strategic Discussions for a Secure Future

During the meeting, ministers explored several topics pertinent to strengthening collective Arab security cooperation. Key discussions included coordinating policies to counter terrorism and organized crime, exchanging cybersecurity expertise, and enhancing regional stability.

They also reviewed strategic plans such as the 11th phased plan of the Arab Strategy against illicit narcotics use, the 7th phased plan for civil protection (Civil Defense), and a draft proposal for confronting cybersecurity crimes.

Participation from Global Partners

The event saw participation from various dignitaries including Margarida Blasco, Minister of Interior of the Portuguese Republic, representatives from GCC countries, the Arab Maghreb Union, INTERPOL, the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism, the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, and Europol.

Oman's delegation was comprised of high-profile officials such as Maj.Gen Abdullah bin Ali Al Harthy, Assistant Inspector General of Police and Customs for Operations, Dr. Hilal bin Abdullah Al Sinani, Ambassador to Tunisia, alongside other Ministry of Interior and Royal Oman Police representatives.
