On February 23, 2025, Riyadh Municipality commenced an ambitious project to honor the nation's heritage by installing nameplates for 15 major squares in Riyadh. This initiative pays tribute to prominent imams and kings who have significantly contributed to Saudi Arabia’s foundation and development over three centuries.
A Royal Directive
The directive from Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, inspired this project, with a proposal by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The initiative aligns seamlessly with Founding Day celebrations on February 22, highlighting leadership's dedication to preserving national heritage and commemorating influential historical figures.
Swift Implementation
Field teams immediately started installing signage and updating directional markers, ensuring quick implementation. This effort is part of Riyadh Municipality’s broader strategy aimed at enhancing national identity in public spaces, contributing significantly to Vision 2030 objectives.
Honoring Historical Figures
The selected squares will bear the names of key leaders such as Imam Mohammed bin Saud, King Abdulaziz, and King Salman, among others. This not only celebrates their contributions but also reinforces a sense of pride and identity within public spaces across Riyadh.
Vision 2030 Alignment
This initiative is strategically aligned with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, which emphasizes the importance of showcasing the Kingdom's rich history and cultural values. By commemorating these figures, Riyadh Municipality aims to promote national unity and educate future generations on their invaluable contributions.
