Oman is intensifying its economic diversification by developing new industrial cities. The Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ) spearheads this initiative to boost industrial establishments, attract investments, increase GDP contributions, and create job opportunities for Omani youth.

Mahas Industrial City Initiatives

In collaboration with the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (Madayn), Mahas Industrial City in Khasab is at the forefront. Plans are progressing for Shinas Industrial City in Al Batinah North and the establishment of Al Wadi Al Kabir Industrial City in Muscat Governorate.

Growth Indicated by Industrial Licenses

By the end of 2024, Oman issued 183 industrial licenses across special economic zones, free zones, and industrial cities. Notably, industrial cities received 125 licenses, representing 68% of all permits under OPAZ's supervision, reflecting a growing interest in Oman’s industrial sector driven by investment incentives.

Investment Opportunities Under OPAZ

OPAZ oversees zones prepared for diverse industries with infrastructure support including natural gas access, tax and customs exemptions, and connectivity to ports and airports. These efforts align with Oman’s Industrial Strategy 2040, promoting a conducive environment for industrial growth.

Youth Empowerment through Industrial Expansion

The expansion in special economic zones, free zones, and industrial cities has positively impacted Oman's economy by enhancing local value addition and creating jobs for young Omanis. This marks progress towards using domestic resources and fostering innovation.

Diverse Industries Across Oman

Oman is home to 2,012 manufacturing establishments under OPAZ’s supervision, ranging from food production to pharmaceuticals. Micro-enterprises are prominent, supporting local and expatriate workers in an ecosystem focused on sustainability and technological advancement.

Key Strategic Industrial Zones

SEZAD, featuring the Duqm Refinery, highlights Oman's commitment to green industries. Other zones like Salalah, Sohar, and Madayn attract investments across sectors, emphasizing their role in Oman’s industrial strategy.
