In a recent effort to strengthen global security, Kuwait has taken significant steps to combat terrorism financing. On February 11, 2025, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) conducted a workshop titled 'Countering the Financing of Terrorism' in Kuwait. This event was crucial for raising awareness among local security agencies and financial institutions about effective measures against terrorism funding.

Ahmed Genidy, a Counter Terrorism Specialist at UNODC in Austria, emphasized the importance of international agreements to criminalize and freeze funds linked to terrorism. He highlighted the necessity of international cooperation in these efforts. Arturo Laurent, a Program Officer for the Terrorism Prevention Branch of UNODC, praised Kuwait's commitment to aligning with global best practices. He underscored the need for vigilance against vulnerabilities in financial systems that terrorists could exploit.

The workshop focused on key themes such as the prevention of terrorist groups accessing funds and the disruption of their financial lifelines. It also highlighted the importance of enhancing legal frameworks and cooperation among various stakeholders to strengthen counterterrorism strategies.
