Diplomatic Dialogue: Egypt and China Strengthen Ties Amidst Middle Eastern Challenges

In a pivotal phone conversation on February 22, 2025, Badr Abdelatty, the Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration, engaged with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi. This dialogue underscores the commitment to fortify bilateral relations between Egypt and China while addressing evolving dynamics in the Middle East.

Strengthening Bilateral Relations: The two ministers emphasized the importance of convening a joint governmental committee, following up on the strategic dialogue session that took place in Beijing in December 2024. The focus is on enhancing economic and trade relations, with China encouraged to increase its investments in Egypt for mutual benefit.

Regional Developments: Sudan, Gaza, and Syria: The conversation also touched upon pressing issues in Sudan, Gaza, and Syria. Minister Abdelatty highlighted Egypt's efforts in solidifying a ceasefire in Gaza, structured into three phases, along with plans for early recovery and reconstruction that ensure Palestinians remain on their land. This plan has received significant Arab support, including from China.

In Sudan, the importance of respecting sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity was underscored by Minister Abdelatty. The ministers agreed on the necessity of a ceasefire to facilitate a comprehensive political process involving all Sudanese factions, aiming to restore security and stability in the region.

Regarding Syria, both parties concurred on initiating an inclusive political process representing all Syrian factions. They emphasized making Syria a pillar of regional stability, contributing significantly to combating terrorism and extremism.

This dialogue exemplifies the collaborative spirit between Egypt and China as they navigate complex regional challenges together, reinforcing their strategic partnership in pursuit of peace and development across the Middle East.
