In a groundbreaking move, the Omani Environmental Services Holding Company (be’ah) has teamed up with ahli islamic to further develop an advanced hazardous waste treatment facility. This collaboration marks a significant stride toward an integrated industrial waste management system in Oman.

Phase Two of Industrial Waste Treatment Facility Underway

Following the successful execution of the first phase at Sohar Free Zone, be’ah and ahli islamic have inked a financing agreement to launch Phase II. This new development is backed by OMR 51 million financing and aims to establish a state-of-the-art hazardous waste treatment plant. The project focuses on enhancing physico-chemical treatment technologies while setting up modern facilities for used oils and highly toxic waste management.

Features of the Comprehensive Project

The initial phase, now operational for several years, boasts industrial landfills, solid waste storage facilities, a solidification plant, and an accredited specialized laboratory. The complete project will also feature smart storage tanks and advanced infrastructure to boost operational efficiency.

Contributions to National Economy and Sustainability Goals

Upon completion, the facility is set to bolster the national economy significantly, align with Oman Vision 2040, and promote circular economy principles. By establishing necessary infrastructure for industrial projects and creating job opportunities, this initiative leverages waste resources' inherent value and boosts in-country worth.

Eng. Abdulkarim bin Qasim Al Balushi, Chief Operating Officer – Hazardous Waste at be’ah, highlighted the importance of financial institutions like ahli islamic in driving infrastructure projects that support economic growth and advance Oman’s global standing. Adherence to International Standards

The project complies with the Basel Convention on controlling transboundary movements of hazardous wastes. Oman remains dedicated to meeting the highest international standards for environmental protection and sustainability.

Transforming Industrial Waste Management in Oman

Once Phase II is completed, the Sohar Free Zone facility will revolutionize the industrial waste management sector. By setting new industry standards and fulfilling the increasing demands of the industrial sector, this project ensures both growth and environmental care.
