A Major Restoration Initiative at Muharraq Cemetery

The Sunni Waqf Directorate has announced a substantial renovation project aimed at restoring the perimeter boundary wall of the historic Muharraq Cemetery. This initiative is expected to cost between BD100,000 and BD150,000. Although the damage comprises minor cracks, the repair work will employ durable materials that promise to extend the lifespan of this critical structure by at least ten years.

Collaborative Efforts for Sustainable Preservation

Authorities are collaborating with various bodies to ensure high-quality restoration using sustainable materials. This comes in response to a request from the Muharraq Municipal Council, which sought updates on maintenance plans to preserve the cemetery's heritage and functionality.

Expanding Facilities at Muharraq Cemetery

In addition to structural repairs, the directorate has confirmed plans for three new mourning halls at Muharraq Cemetery. These halls are designed to accommodate large gatherings and feature separate entry and exit points to enhance visitor experience. Plans also include additional halls in Budaiya and Manama. The project is currently pending a few outstanding permits but will soon commence, marking an important development in cemetery infrastructure.

Enhanced Lighting for Safer Environment

As part of the ongoing efforts to improve the cemetery, there's a significant push towards enhancing lighting facilities. This initiative aims to ensure a safer and more secure environment for visitors at night, complementing the structural upgrades planned.

Sustainable Energy Solutions: Solar Panels Installation

The directorate is also exploring sustainable energy solutions by planning the installation of solar panels on cemetery buildings. This project aligns with global trends towards renewable energy sources and aims to reduce operational costs while promoting environmental sustainability.

The comprehensive restoration and expansion plan for Muharraq Cemetery reflect a commitment to preserving its historical significance while adapting to modern needs. With an emphasis on durability, sustainability, and enhanced visitor amenities, these projects promise to secure the cemetery's legacy for future generations.
